Beauty Insider: ABBY X OMAYMA SKIN
At Omayma Skin, we’re drawn to women who embody beauty as both ritual and lifestyle. Meet Abby Zinaja-Ross (@abbsfar)—esthetician, Pilates enthusiast, and all-around wellness muse. With a feed that feels equal parts aspirational and approachable, Abby has mastered the art of glowing from the inside out. Her philosophy blends mindful movement, barrier-loving skincare, and the kind of grounded rituals that make beauty feel effortless—and endlessly modern.
Tell us about your path into the world of skincare and wellness. Was there a defining moment that inspired your journey?
My path into skincare and wellness has been rooted in a genuine passion for taking care of both the body and mind. Outside of esthetics, I’m also a certified yoga and pilates instructor, and while I’m not currently teaching, movement and mindfulness have always been core to how I live.
Skincare has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. I used to watch esthetician videos for hours, taking notes and imagining what it would be like to treat skin professionally. Eventually, I decided to turn that passion into a career.
I’ve also struggled with breakouts in the past, so I know how deeply our skin can affect our confidence. That’s a big part of why I do this work. I want to help others feel confident in their natural skin.
How would you describe your skincare philosophy? How does that philosophy translate into the way you care for yourself and others?
My skincare philosophy is rooted in building confidence and creating space for self-care.
I believe healthy skin means feeling radiant in your natural skin without needing to cover it up.
I want my clients to experience that same ease. Skincare is also a chance to slow down and reconnect with yourself, so I always aim to create treatments that feel nurturing on a deeper, more intentional level.
How would you describe timeless beauty, and in what ways do you think our industry can return to more intentional, skin-first values?
I think there’s something so powerful and elegant about simplicity, and that’s where true timelessness comes from.
I’d love to see the industry return to more intentional, skin-first values by focusing on quality ingredients, not just in skincare, but in everything we use daily. Makeup, body wash, lotion, even hair care - all of it touches our skin, and I think we deserve products that are just as nourishing as they are effective. I’d especially love to see more makeup brands that truly prioritize skin health, so we’re enhancing our features without compromising our skin along the way.
How has incorporating Omayma Skin into your ritual elevated both the experience and the results—whether in texture, radiance, or the way your skin feels day to day?
I love using Omayma Skin in my routine! It’s truly become a staple. I use the Active Rejuvenation Oasis Serum both morning and night, and the Bedouin Elixir Facial Oil in the evenings whenever my skin needs that extra nourishment. The facial oil also gives the perfect glide for the Gua sha tool, which I’ve been loving for sculpting and boosting circulation.
I’ve noticed a visible difference in fine lines and overall hydration. My skin feels more plump, less dehydrated, and I’ve even seen leftover pigmentation from past breakouts fade more quickly. I also really appreciate that both serums are acne-prone skin-friendly! The ingredients are not only clean but also effective, with antioxidant protection and support against environmental stressors. It’s skincare that feels luxurious and purposeful.
What are the non-negotiables in your daily skincare ritual?
Some of my skincare non-negotiables are simple but make a huge difference. I always give each product time to absorb fully before layering the next. It’s such an underrated step for getting the most out of your routine. I also make time for gua sha and my red light mask, even if it’s just a few minutes, because they help keep my skin feeling sculpted and calm. It also feels like a mini facial - how could I say no to that?
If I’m breaking out, I’m definitely icing! I keep an ice roller in the fridge at all times to help calm inflammation quickly. And of course, sunscreen! That’s the ultimate non-negotiable. You will never catch me out in the sun without it!
What ingredients do you always gravitate towards and why? Are there any you intentionally avoid?
I always gravitate toward ingredients that support the skin barrier and calm inflammation. Niacinamide is a favorite (as in the Active Rejuvenation Oasis Serum). It helps with oil control, brightens, and is great for sensitive skin.
I also love calming ingredients like chamomile, centella asiatica, and anything anti-inflammatory or antibacterial. Sometimes soothing ingredients are more powerful for long-term skin health than strong actives. I’m also big on hyaluronic acid for hydration and ceramides to strengthen and repair the barrier. And I always check for pore-clogging ingredients to help avoid breakouts!
What products are you obsessed with right now and why?
Right now, I’m obsessed with milky toners. They’re so gentle, hydrating, and leave the skin feeling perfectly balanced and glowy. A few favorites are the Anua 70 Rice Glow Milky Toner, Dr. Loretta Barrier Repair Milky Essence, and the Haruharu Black Rice Probiotics Barrier Essence. They all give that soft, cushiony feel while supporting the skin barrier. It’s the perfect post-cleanse step to prep the skin for everything else.
I’m also loving hydrojelly masks. I don’t always get to use them on myself, but I love treating my clients to them. They’re amazing for calming inflammation, deeply hydrating, and bringing that juicy, plump glow to the skin. Plus they make the whole facial experience feel extra special.
Describe your own skin routine, what products and ingredients are you loving at the moment?
My skincare routine is one of my favorite parts of the day. It’s both a ritual and a way to keep my skin healthy and happy. I always double cleanse at night. I start with an oil cleanser like Dermalogica PreCleanse to break down sunscreen and makeup, followed by the La Roche-Posay Purifying Foaming Cleanser, which has been a go-to for years. I also rotate in the Circadia Salicylic Cleanser when I feel like my skin needs a deeper clean or a little help with congestion.
After cleansing, I go in with a milky toner to balance and prep the skin, then apply eye cream. I’m currently loving the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum. Next up are my serums, which are my favorite step.
I’m obsessed with the Omayma Active Rejuvenation Oasis Serum and The Bedouin Elixir Facial Oil. They give my skin the best glow, hydration, and nourishment. I’ve also been enjoying the French Farmacie Serum Radiant for extra radiance and anti-aging benefits.
To seal it all in, I go for a gentle, hydrating moisturizer like the Circadia Aqua Biotic Moisturizer or even the Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer. Sometimes simple is best! For sunscreen, I love trying new ones, but right now I’m really liking the Prequel Sun Barrier Mineral Sunscreen. It layers beautifully and gives me the protection I need without irritation.
As an expert esthetician, what do you wish more people understood about skin health?
I wish more people understood how connected skin is to everything else - stress, sleep, gut health, hormones. You can have the best routine, but if you’re running on no sleep, super stressed, or not nourishing your body, it’s going to show on your skin. Skin is a reflection of what’s going on internally, not just what we put on top.
Where do you see the future of skincare heading?
I see the future of skincare moving toward more advanced technology. Things like LED therapy, skin analysis tools, and high-tech extractions. Devices are becoming smarter and more accessible, and I think we’ll continue to see a blend of science, skincare, and wellness all in one experience.
How do you infuse your personal self-care rituals with intention, and what makes them feel sacred to you?
It’s all about slowing down and being fully present. I block out time in my schedule for self-care because it’s what keeps me grounded. It’s my ‘me time’. I really need that time everyday to check in with myself, move my body, breathe deeply, and enjoy my skincare rituals with intention and gratitude. These routines shape the rest of the day for me and that’s what makes them feel sacred.
If you could only keep three skincare products on your vanity, what would they be and why?
If I could only keep three products, I’d go with an oil cleanser - either the Dermalogica PreCleanse or the Manyo Pure Cleansing Oil - because I have to cleanse morning and night, and these keep my skin clean without stripping it. I’d also keep the Omayma Skin Active Rejuvenation Serum. It’s so hydrating and multitasking that it feels like a full routine in one step. And of course, sunscreen! EltaMD UV Daily is a forever favorite for its glowy, lightweight feel and solid protection.
I’m a big believer in skincare on the inside as well as out - what lifestyle rituals have you incorporated in order to elevate your skin health? (pilates, matcha over coffee, no alcohol, certain supplements, eating/not eating certain things, etc etc)
I really believe that what we do on the inside shows up on our skin. Daily pilates is a big part of my routine. It gets my blood flowing and brings that natural glow from circulation. I drink matcha every single day because it’s full of antioxidants, supports skin elasticity, and is a lot more gentle on the body than coffee.
I’ve never had alcohol, and I honestly wouldn’t change that. It can cause a lot of inflammation and shows up quickly in the skin. I also love incorporating supplements like Vital Proteins collagen, sea moss, and omega-3s. I drink tons of water, limit dairy since it breaks me out, and always prioritize good sleep! I track it with my Oura ring and truly feel the difference in my skin when I’m well rested.
Is there a person, place or moment that consistently inspires your aesthetic or approach to beauty?
Living by the ocean is a huge source of inspiration for me. It reminds me to slow down and be present, and that energy has definitely influenced the vibe of my treatment room. I want my space to feel calming and grounded, just like the beach. I’m also constantly inspired by other estheticians, from my classmates in esthetician school to the talented women I work alongside now. There’s always something new to learn, and being part of a community that shares knowledge and passion really lights me up.
What is the one piece of advice you would give to the whole world about skin health if you could?
I’m sure you’ve heard it a million times, but seriously, wear your sunscreen! It’s the most important step in any routine. If you’re already applying products, it takes just one extra second to protect your skin long-term. And beyond that, listen to your skin. You know it better than anyone. An esthetician can help guide you, but your skin is always communicating with you.
What are some of your favorite skin treatments to do and why?
One of my favorite treatments to do is a chemical peel. They’re amazing for refreshing the skin, especially after the summer months when sun exposure can cause dullness, uneven texture, and pigmentation. A series of chemical peels can help boost cell turnover, brighten the complexion, smooth fine lines, and even out skin tone. It’s like hitting the reset button for your skin.
I also love incorporating LED therapy as a regular add-on to my facials. It’s a gentle, non-invasive way to calm inflammation, promote collagen production, and speed up healing. It enhances results and leaves skin looking radiant and balanced.
