BEAUTY INSIDER: JENNA ELFMAN

In today's beauty insider, our founder, Omayma Ramzy had the absolute pleasure of interviewing our dear friend, actress and icon, Jenna Elfman! Whether you know her from the iconic Dharma & Greg, Keeping The Faith or the latest Fear of The Walking Dead, Jenna has most likely been on a screen near you!

As an incredible actress for so many amazing shows and movies, you’ve had to be “in the makeup chair” day in and out for many occasions- do you have any special or extra steps you take for your skin when you are filming?

I make sure that I stay hydrated and I take care to get good sleep whenever possible, because my skin texture and skin tone are the first things to change for the worse if I haven't gotten enough sleep from early call times for filming and am dehydrated from too much coffee, travel and time zone changes, and not enough water.  I also have my sin routine, which definitely involves your Omayma Skin Bedouin Elixir Facial Oil. It is SO good at hydrating and plumping my skin. I also use Joanna Vargas’ face masks the night before filming, as they really, really help.

You’ve also worked with some of the best makeup and hair artists in the world! Do you have a beauty hack or trick that you’ve learned and loved ever since?

I switched from brow pencil to tinted brow gel and I am forever grateful to makeup artist Kim Bower for turning me onto that.

How would you describe your relationship with beauty and skin care over the years?

I used to take skin care for granted. I was lucky to get good skin from my Mama. But now that I am 51, I really, really see that the key to feeling fresh and maintaining good skin is by tending to it, like a garden! Haha! I am less concerned about the fashion of my makeup and more inspired by having amazing skin for minimal makeup.  I feel more pretty with less makeup on, I feel more myself.  And so I spend more money on my skincare than on makeup.

What does beauty mean to you?

Feeling truly yourself, in your own skin— both figuratively and literally. When you are staying true to your own truth, you occupy space in a way that is glowing, permeating and confident.

What is your go-to beauty routine & current beauty favorites?

SO, I did recently bought the full NuFACE Trinity Complete Facial Toning Kit. And I definitely use all of the attachments regularly. I am commuting a lot for filming Season 8 of Fear the Walking Dead in Savannah, and I like being able to keep my skincare in my own hands, since my schedule is SO crazy.
I do think it works if you do it regularly and I am happy with the results. I wash my face with either In Your Face Skincare Moisturizing Wash or Joanna Vargas’ Vitamin C face wash, depending on the day. And the In Your Face Skincare clarifying was a couple times a week, really makes my skin glow.
If it’s dry outside, or I have makeup to get off, I use Eve Lom Creme cleanser, it is is very, very hydrating. Then I put on In Your Face Skincare Plumping Serum (amazing stuff!) and then your Omayma Skin Bedouin Elixir Facial Oil (cannot live without it!!)
Then I use the In Your Face Moisturizer. I tend to have more dry skin, so I can take a lot of moisture on my face before I put any makeup on. And that combo doesn’t pill, either.
I really love KoGenDo Moisture Foundation for everyday. It evens out skin tone, while still being lightweight, and your skin still looks like SKIN. And I also am NEVER without my brows, using Anastasia of Beverly Hills tinted brow gel in Taupe. I am also OBSESSED with Bobby Brown’s Jones Road Beauty Makeup. It is SO GOOD. Really. Every product is ace.

What makes someone beautiful?

Being really good at what they do. Competence is BEAUTIFUL to me.  While also being a lovely person. A competent jerk is still a jerk.

What beauty advice (if any!) would you give your younger self?

Don’t smoke. Maybe just every now and then, but not regularly.

How do you like to use the Bedouin Elixir Facial Oil?

I use it everyday as part of my skincare routine, after I apply the In Your Face Skincare Plumping Serum.
What is your absolute favorite skin spa facial or treatment?

Joanna Vargas’ Triple Crown or Supernova facials. Supremely excellent.

Who is your beauty icon?

Marion Cotillard, Vanessa Kirby and Jodie Comer.

You’re going on vacation, what do you bring with you?

Vacation?? I go on vacation? Ha! Can you plan one for me?

Are there any beauty trends that you’d like to see come back?

I am kinda hoping to see a new, more relaxed version of the late 1940’s medium to mid-length curled and styled hair come back with cool, classic wardrobe styling with a punk edge.

Any that you’d like to see go?

Women who all look alike now, with WAY TOO MUCH FILLER. Please, take it down a notch, ladies! You are starting to look like an episode of Twilight Zone. I have nothing against filler. But there is now a “face” that occurs with TOO MUCH in the lips, cheeks, brows and jawline, where they are all starting to look the same. And that, to me, is an insult to the unique and special beauty of all women.

We couldn't agree more Jenna, and what a beautiful perspective on how you view beauty! Thank you so much for being part of our Skin Loving Journey!
